Timing Chain Guides (V8) ↗

Amateur photo log of replacing M60/M62/S62 timing chain guides: lock the engine at TDC with a flywheel pin, strip the whole front (cooling, pulleys, pumps, alternator), pull the intake and valve covers, then the timing covers to reach the guides and tensioners. A very big job.

Tools mentioned: Flywheel TDC pin, cam locking tools, full socket set

E31 M60/M62 Timing Chain Tensioner Replacement - Info ↗

Why the V8's hydraulic timing-chain tensioner should be renewed before it gums up and lets the chain slap the guide rails to pieces, with diagrams of the tensioner and rails. Swapping the tensioner is easy; the guide rails are a much bigger job.

Covers M60, M62 and M62TU (E31/E32/E34/E38/E39).
