E46 M3 overheating: replace only the thermostat insert and O-rings, keep the housing

A long-running DIY (saved from M3Forum on NA M3 Forums) replaces just the thermostat inside the original housing: thermostat 11531318274, thermostat O-ring 11531318402 and 2x water-pipe O-ring 11537830709. Note the thermostat's clocked position before removing it. Rated about 4/10 difficulty, often done with the water pump around 75-100k miles. Only needed if the housing itself is cracked or damaged.
