Front suspension refurbishment ↗

Lessons from rebuilding an E9's lower front suspension. The two tension-strut bushings press out and in normally, but the inboard control-arm bushing (on the 16 mm subframe bolt) is far bigger than its bore and almost impossible to fit. The practical fix is new complete control arms, which come with bushings and a ball joint.

Tools mentioned: Press or bushing tools, sockets, jack stands

Control arm replacement ↗

Members explain swapping complete E9 lower control arms: remove the big inner nut and the tension-strut nut, cut the locking wire and pull the three bolts under the strut, and use a jack to line up the arm on refit (tension strut first, long inner bolt last). It also warns that the standard arm is 381 mm and the 1974 version longer, so check the length.

Tools mentioned: Sockets, floor/bottle jack, safety wire, spring compressor (optional)
