Use another E36 cluster with your coding plug, and sync mileage with cluster Test 9

E36 clusters with a coding plug are plug-and-play between US and Euro cars (one member fitted a UK S50B32 cluster to a US S52 car). Move your coding plug to the replacement cluster, enter the cluster test functions and run Test 9. Holding reset for 4 seconds copies the higher of the two stored mileages to the lower one and clears the tamper dot, so the replacement cluster must have lower mileage. For the Euro oil-temp gauge, add a sender and one wire to pin 13 of X16; the US S52 oil filter housing has no sender port (an S54 or Euro S50 housing does). Euro clusters show a different redline.

Parts / numbers mentioned: coding plug; cluster Test 9; X16 pin 13 oil-temp sender
