Revive a Bosch flap-type air flow meter: test the track and move the wiper onto fresh carbon
Most failures of these Motronic air flow meters come from the wiper wearing grooves through the carbon resistance track. That causes flat spots and stumbles. Test with an analog meter across the track (pins 2 and 4 on the connector) while sweeping the flap: the resistance should change smoothly, with no jumps. Fix: open the sealed cover and shift the wiper contacts (or the track board) slightly onto unworn carbon, then reseal. Also check the air-temp sensor inside. Otherwise owners buy a tested used unit.
Parts / numbers mentioned: analog multimeter; pins 2 & 4 (ECU pins 7 & 28)
